I was preparing for a discussion with a group that meets on Tuesday nights and I thought I would write down some of my thoughts. Getting together and kicking it with other people in discussion can be an awesome way to grow. Especially in a setting like our d-groups as we call it. We all learn from each other and try to see what the bible says about different topics.
This week, we're going to discuss harmony. Scott let me borrow the book Off Road Disciplines by Earl Creps and we've been discussing different topics from that book. The chapter on Harmony: The discipline of blending differences was a good one. Creps says that harmony happens when all the major brands of church value the Christian witness to the world above personal preferences.
These personal preferences are something that I have been prone to getting caught up in. I would say I went as far as to discredit a certain church because I didn't agree with their methods. Only because they weren't right for me. But I realized that if their purpose is to show people the way of Jesus, I should be able to live in harmony with them.
Our way of doing church is innovative and some people may have a problem with that. I could argue with them and become mutually hostile, but that other people would see that we were not in harmony.
People are so diverse, that certain methods and preferences are never going to please 100% of poeple. I pray that Jesus would make me part of his answer for harmony.

I bought an X-Box from a guy that Megan works with last week. Since Megan doesn't play video games, I played alone a few times. It was cool playing the new Madden and NCAA football games, but I am used to playing with someone else. Like playing Halo with my old roommate, or taking on my friends in Tiger Woods Golf, or playing with my brother as teammates on Madden. I think the reason X-Box is fun, is the social aspect of having someone to trash talk to, laugh with, and chat with while playing. It's kind of boring playing with yourself.
It's the friendship part of X-box that I like. If you're going to spend time playing video games, why not play with someone else and build your friendship. So if anyone wants to play, I'll take you down in Madden or Tiger Woods. Maybe not Halo, I need some practice.

Joel Hunter was recently named the president of the Christian Coalition and then stepped down after a few weeks because of a difference in priorities. Joel wanted to expand the scope of the organization to include issues like poverty and the environment. The Coalition said these issues are good issues, but they're not our issues. Typically, the Christian Coalition mainly supports marriage and pro life issues. There are more than just two or three political issues. I don't consider myself a hardcore political person, but hearing something like that makes me sad. The Christian Coalition and people in general should support needy/sick people and protecting the earth. I hope other political organizations don't draw the conclusion that Christians are not concerned with these issues.
